Dainų šventė fever: A survivor’s story

"Every four or so years American Lithuanians across the country are struck with a strange fever. This strange disease drives the sufferer to fly 12 hours to another country, only to rehearse for three days, walk two miles in the hot sun and stand for four hours while singing. This mysterious illness is called Dainų šventė. And I am proud to say that I am a sufferer. I have a mild form that only drives me to sing, but I have witnessed the effects of the more severe form that drives a person to sing as well as dance. Maybe next time I get struck, I’ll get that form. I am a survivor of Dainų šventė and this is my story..." Taip savo pasakojimą pradeda Julija Petkus.
