March 8, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Harris Theater at Millennium Park, Chicago the “Dainava” Lithuanian Chorale and the Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuania in Chicago present “Gratulationes Lithuaniae” - a concert celebrating Lithuania’s first appearance in the annals of history one thousand years ago. The concert features pianists Sonata and Rokas Zubovas from Lithuania and Chicago’s own “Dainava” Lithuanian Chorale, directed by Darius Polikaitis. Choir and keyboard join forces to present works by Lithuanian composers Martinaitis, Čiurlionis and others, as well as Beethoven and Brahms. The highlight of the afternoon is the world premiere of “Lithuanian Suite”, for chorus and two pianos, by Nijolė Sinkevičiūtė. This work fuses ancient folk elements with contemporary styles, presenting an exciting and vibrant musical portrait of the Baltic country that many in the Chicagoland area call “home”.
